Special Issue Call for Papers on Transportation Research Part C

TOPIC: Parking in the Connected and Automated Era: Operation, Planning and Management

Parking problems, in which issues of planning, operation and management are involved, have attracted considerable attention in different research areas including transportation, economics, urban planning and operation management. Existing studies aim at scientific planning, efficient operation and effective management, for example, to reduce the parking cruising time, to mitigate the parking congestion and to improve parking services, have been explored and investigated in some large cities and metropolises. However, further studies are necessarily to dealing with these parking challenges.

Recent technological developments, especially with the rising connected and automated technologies, have enabled a series of innovations in dealing with parking operation, planning and management, e.g. dynamic pricing mechanism for parking, parking reservation, shared parking, smart parking systems, and innovative matching mechanism which is effectively accommodate the gap between excessive parking demand and insufficient supply. These provide new opportunities for improving parking services.

Therefore, facing the connected and automated era, it is very important that we start to utilize multiple sourced data, develop innovative methods, and design new mechanism to understand the parking development from its perspective on operation, planning and management. We invite contributions to address these research problems which are related to the operation, planning, and management of parking, and synergies and interactions with conventional parking systems (e.g., curbside parking, park and ride). The submissions of contributions providing rigorous modelling development, economic/policy analysis based on either optimization, economics, operations research and/or data-driven approach are especially encouraged.

Scope of the special issue:

To address these challenges, this special issue is interested in the following topics among others:

· Shared parking: operation and management

· Modelling approaches of smart parking systems

· Parking pricing and revenue management

· Matching and parking slot allocation

· Shared mobility services and parking

· Impacts of automation on parking provision

· Parking and traffic congestion

· Behavioral modeling/case study

· Empirical studies and data analysis

· Synergies and interactions with other parking/transport policies

Submission method:

Guidelines for manuscript submission can be referred to https://www.evise.com/evise/jrnl/TRC

When submitting your manuscript, please choose “VSI: Parking” for “Article Type”. This is to ensure that your submission will be considered for this Special Issue instead of being handled as a regular paper.

Important dates:

Papers will be reviewed upon receiving in the open window (December 2nd, 2019 - April 11st, 2020), and a decision for each paper will be made as soon as the review process is complete.
